A day of art, heritage and city life
A stay at Trimaarzate gives you plenty of reasons to add a city visit to your plans. In Kortrijk, walk from historic streets to the Lys riverbanks, and from visual art to the story of flax and linen. Zwevegem has industrial heritage of its own at Transfo.
Set aside half a day for culture or spend longer exploring Ronse, Oudenaarde, Tournai, Roubaix or Lille. A city walk, one visit and a meal together can make a rewarding day out.
Discover Kortrijk on a city walk
Kortrijk: from the Beguinage to the Lys
Start with Kortrijk’s main sights. The Beguinage, historic churches and lowered banks of the Lys show different sides of the city. Combine your walk with a café stop and decide which sights you would most like to visit.
Discover Kortrijk on foot
Follow the Stadswandelroute Kortrijk to explore the city on foot. Its route page provides a map and practical details. To combine a city visit with cycling, browse the resources on our cycling routes page.
Abby and Texture
At Abby, visual art takes centre stage on the site of the former Groeninge Abbey. Texture explores how flax and linen shaped the Lys region. Both museums provide a good starting point for a cultural day in Kortrijk. Check their current exhibitions and visitor information before setting off.
Industrial heritage in Zwevegem
At Transfo, a former power station has found new uses. Pair a look at its industrial heritage with Transfo Energiek, an interactive introduction to electricity and energy. Ask ahead about visits for families or groups.
Explore more towns across the region
Visit Ronse or Oudenaarde for a day in the Flemish Ardennes. Tournai is another option for a city visit. Across the French border, discover art and industrial heritage in Roubaix or explore lively Lille. Use the local tourist offices to plan visits and transport.
Exhibitions and events during your stay

Oudenaarde: town hall, Scheldt and cycling stories
Start on Oudenaarde’s market square and take time to look at the town hall. It houses MOU, the Oudenaarde museum. Combine a museum visit with a walk through the centre and along the Scheldt to experience both the heritage and riverside setting.
For cycling enthusiasts, the Tour of Flanders Centre is a fitting stop. A visit gives context to the hills and cobbles you might explore on a ride. It also works as a separate cultural outing with members of your group who do not cycle.
Ronse: heritage at the foot of the hills
In Ronse, St Hermes’ Crypt is a starting point for a heritage visit. Leave time afterwards to explore the centre and have lunch together. To finish outdoors, plan a short walk near Muziekbos. Check visitor information to fit the different parts of your day together.
Lille: Vieux-Lille and the Palais des Beaux-Arts
Give Lille its own day in your itinerary. Vieux-Lille invites you to wander among old façades, shops and places to eat. Grand’Place is a useful landmark for a city walk; for an art visit, choose the Palais des Beaux-Arts.
Agree on a meeting point so museum visitors and shoppers can explore at their own pace. Check opening days and plan transport and parking beforehand, leaving more time to enjoy the city.
